Block paintings
Oil paint was applied wit a palette knife, layer upon layer, creating a highly textured and almost 3D effect. I was inspired by the architecture in Amsterdam.

Serenity
2010I was pregnant at the time and the colours are soft and gentle, reflecting my mood. I wasn't sure if I was having a boy or a girl, so there are touches of blue and pink. The curves symbolize the female body as I was very much in touch with the roundness and fullness of my changing body at the time. It was a very happy time and the painting came together quickly.
Manifestation
2010I had emerged from a very difficult time and had started to see a "light at the end of the tunnel", so to speak. The single white block reflects me, and the white area shows the light, drawing me closer. I painted this in Amsterdam while I was on holiday, before I actually moved to Holland.
Passion
2010I had incredible energy at the time, as I was pregnant. The dark and bright colours reflect the emotions I was going through. This painting is inspired by a feeling, rather than an object or place. It was exhibited at the Beurs de Berlage in Amsterdam in 2009.
Full Circle
2010This painting symbolises the circle of life, how one's life can shift - from dark to light, but always completing the circle. I was also inspired the 1970's.
Autumn
2010I was inspired by the beautiful colours of the trees in Autumn in Amsterdam. The white, foggy border reflects the dimming light as Winter approaches.
Glamour
2010I was inspired by the architecture in Amsterdam at night. I love going out and walking home over the bridges in the misty night light. The city is alive and there is always something wonderful going on.
Love
2009This painting was exhibited at the Beurs de Berlage in Amsterdam in 2009. I was inspired by the architecture in Amsterdam, which is reflected in the "block technique" created using a palette knife. The colours are a combination of soft and light, and dark and bold colours which reflect how I was feeling at the time, as I was pregnant with my son.
